Which workshop should I do if I’m already using the ACLS?

Question:

I have been using the ACLS for the last 5 years in clinical practice, however did not complete the 2-day introductory workshop through your organisation. Will I still need to complete the 2-day workshop before doing the Advanced workshop you offer?

Likewise, if you have already been using the ACLS, is the two-day introductory workshop beneficial for those practitioners?

Response:

As a general guideline, the advanced workshop is designed for those who have completed the introductory workshop. That said, I’m flexible. While we do cover theory and aspects of the Cognitive Disabilities Model, Day 2 also includes a practical component where we work hands-on with screening tools and practise administering the screen. Some of this may feel redundant if you’re already familiar with the process.

Many experienced OTs attend the training, and I find they often gain more from the workshop than novices because they can immediately apply the information to their existing knowledge.

The advanced workshop is highly conversational. I have material prepared, but we can’t always cover everything in the one day format. We start by discussing what each participant wants to achieve and tailor the content to meet those goals. Common themes tend to arise, and they’re easy to address. These days, I can answer most questions on the model, and if something comes up that I can’t answer on the spot, I’ll follow up after the session.

So, the short answer is: YES, you’re welcome to attend the advanced workshop if you believe it will meet your needs. And YES, even those already using the ACLS often find the two-day introductory workshop valuable.
